INDUSTRIAL NOISE CONTROL PROJECTS
Nova
Chemicals Corporation, Sarnia, Ontario
HGC Engineering made extensive use of sound intensity
measurement to isolate the dominant segments of pipe-radiated sound
in a complex of high pressure, high volume piping.
The detailed measurements were analyzed to develop
noise control recommendations in the form of acoustical lagging
of many lineal metres of piping.
Sound levels throughout the area were reduced
by 10 dBA. The cost savings over alternative methods of noise control
were in the order of several million dollars.
HGC Engineering also assisted Nova in installing
permanent noise monitors at the property line at the facility.
